The Atlantic cross body bag. This style is 9 inches across, 7 inches tall and 3 inches from back to front. It has a built in wallet with 6 card slots and a deep slot for cash, as well as a built in change purse with snap closure. This bag is a favorite to many since it seems to carry the perfect amount of items, without being too heavy. This beautiful bag is gorgeous and functional and created with such intention and love (please see the info below) It does show some signs of wear l (please see pics and read about the leather used to make it below) Retails for $445 About Marlow Goods (from their website) My purpose for running Marlow Goods is not only to support the makers whose work is a dying craft in NYC, but also to support young people in the foster care system of NYC. All profits are donated to Pure Legacee Inc, based in Brownsville, Brooklyn. I do all of the production, sales and shipping for the brand, and do not take a salary. This work is a love letter to New Yorkers who have been systemically oppressed by poverty and by our unjust system of criminalizing people for simply trying to survive. All of the young people whom Pure Legacee’s work impacts have incarcerated parents and relatives. Naquasia Pollard, Pure Legacee’s founder and director, was incarcerated at the age of 18 years old, when newly pregnant, and was forced to serve 15 years in a state prison. So when you are purchasing an item from Marlow Goods, you are actually giving basic and necessary tools for thriving to your Brooklyn neighbors who have been chronically under supported. Pure Legacee offers monthly care boxes with items like: sanitary products, metrocards, bras, water, and other basic needs. They also offer internships, classes, big sister programs, Reiki therapy, and other therapies for healing from trauma. Info about the leather they use to make their bags: I opened Marlow Goods in 2008 with the desire to produce the simple and hyper-functional leather goods that I needed for my life as a New Yorker. There was no leather that inspired me, so I set out to produce locally grown and tanned leather that connected with the ethos of the locally sourced produce, meat, dairy and grains that we offer at our Brooklyn food businesses: Diner, Marlow & Sons, Roman’s, She Wolf Bakery, Marlow & Daughters and Achilles Heel. All of the leather comes from a Massachusetts beef farm. It is then chestnut tanned at a family-run tannery in Montgomery, NY. The leather is natural and has Zero synthetic coatings on top of it to make it appear “flawless” like almost all leathers that we see today. When we think of Gucci, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Lotuff, - you name it - all of these companies use leather that has been essentially Air-Brushed with coatings. Our leather is 100% itself, and not only that, we use all of the hide. So areas that a leather worker is trained to throw out - we use. The leather has a Lot of character and is not visually "perfect"- pin holes from insects, smudges from life at the tannery, discoloration are normal. Our leather patinas beautifully with age and use.
