Mix of vintage and contemporary pins of varying sizes, materials, and social movements. The New Society and Right to Choose pins are iconic 80s protest gear and really cool pieces of activist history. Adding in the other 3 pins since they all go so well together! -New Society: metal, 1980s. From the 70s-80s Lower East Side squatting movement in NYC. Union-made by Donnelly/Colt Progressive Resources, “the nation’s oldest purveyor of peace paraphernalia” since 1975. 1.5” across. -Right to Choose: metal, 1980s. From the 1989 March for Women’s Equality and Women’s Lives on Washington, DC. 2.25” across. -Vote: metal, 2010s. 2” across. -Statue of Liberty: metal, unknown. 2.5” across. -Kentucky State: enamel, unknown. A little over 1” across.
“Tracked the New Society and Right to Choose pins down as part of my research on fashion as activism in undergrad! Bought the other 3 pins from flea markets and a local bookstore.”
