UPDATE: did some more research and this is a loop collar shirt (you can see in 2nd pic - has a small hidden button underneath the collar that can be closed with a loop fastener giving the shirt a more casual, flat look with open collar rather than a heavy button weighing it down). these were prominent in the 40s through 60s so this shirt is possibly even older than I thought and, possibly, pretty valuable (when I was researching it’s crazy how expensive mid-century aloha shirts can go for 😳 - lucky for whoever gets this I have no interest in shopping this around but may change that as I research more so don’t sit on this one). Vintage Royal Hawaiian Aloha Shirt. So hard to date but size/quality and lack of fabric tag (which were only required on garments post-1971) makes me think 60s. From what I can find online, this shirt was most likely sold inside the Royal Hawaiian Hotel - super famous hotel that opened in 1927 and has appeared in movies (1962’s Gidget Goes Hawaiian), television (Mad Men Season 6 premiere), and music (the “pink hotel” referenced in Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi”). Caron Callahan (Johanson shirt) and Ilana Kohn (Chelito shirt) have Aloha shirts but this is the real deal. Good quality vintage Hawaiian shirts are becoming harder to find in this size range too - even the original buttons are all there for this one. No size or material tag but feels like a very soft, high quality rayon (most vintage aloha shirts are rayon) Some small runs/pin-sized holes/loose threads (see pics) but rayon runs don’t really spread so shouldn’t be a problem. Really have to look for these because all you can see is the eye-catching color when worn. See pics for measurements.
