One of the first crochet sweaters I ever made, seams were originally whip stitched, and are now reinforced with Darn Good Yarn silk dk slip stitches. Yarn is Loops and Threads acrylic, but it has little pilling. Seams are pretty visible from the outside, and the weaved in ends are noticible only from the inside.
