I just found this scarf in a trunk of winter clothes I packed in NYC and haven’t worn in 20+ years. It’s about to become a massive score for someone. This is a well-loved scarf from Sofia Coppola’s wildly sought-after fashion label, Milkfed. It’s a Japan-only brand now, but back in the day, it was the hottest streetwear in NYC, only sold at places like Liquid Sky (IYKYK) and the downtown Barneys. I bought it at Kim Gordon’s X-Girl boutique in Alphabet City when I was in college. It cost a small fortune then, and is rare enough that I can’t even find comps to see what it would be worth now. All tags removed, so I’m not sure what the fabric content is, but it pills like a wool/nylon blend. And pill it does! But it’s a truly special piece; the people who know what it is will try to buy it off your neck on the street.

“This was a favorite piece to wear walking around the East Village in the mid-90s, frequently stopping to ogle the skateboarders near the Astor Place cube. I was likely wearing this when I hooked up with one of the guys from the movie Kids. It tells you how much this scarf meant to me that I never accidentally left it in a bar or some rando’s apartment!”
